A word from our President: Christmas, for most of us, conjurs up memories of warm homes, good smells (favorite foods cooking, the smell of the tree), soft carols playing, and, of course, PRESENTS!

But, what if you are a child in a homeless shelter somewhere in Tacoma, or maybe even worse...living with three other siblings AND your mom, in the family car?! What memories would Christmas hold for you then?

Toy Rescue Mission loves to make sure we can "make Christmas", at least in part, for each needy child we serve. No, we can't give them a safe, secure home, or tables full of food; there are other agencies in the area that DO try to meet some of those needs. But, we try to bring back the LIGHT in a child's eyes as they see a wished-for gift emerging from the its wrappings on Christmas morning--something they can call their own in a world of chaos and uncertainty; something they can build memories with, that may even go with them into adulthood, to remind them that they weren't forgotten even at the low points in their life!

And, lest we forget, there are the "forgotten children" at the other end of the age spectrum...the seniors who are digressing into their own world of Alzheimer's or dementia. These forgotten ones are just as needy, lonely and alone. The gift of a stuffed animal becomes a pet! A baby doll becomes their long-lost child! A lovingly-made lap blanket keeps their extremities warm on cold winter nights. Because...someone (maybe you?) took the time to help bring the warmth, joy and comfort of the holidays into their sad circumstances.

Will YOU be the one this year to allow the true spirit of Christmas touch YOUR heart and nudge you out of complacency to come to TRM and help make Christmas, Easter or even a birthday a special, memorable moment for these "forgotten ones" in our society? In this way, you will be letting the True Spirit of Christmas bring blessing to your heart as well, all year-round!
