Local Non-Profit Organization’s Founder Announces Her Retirement

After nineteen years of whole-hearted dedication, the founder of Toy Rescue Mission, Karol Barkley, has announced her retirement from the organization effective January 1st, 2010. Due in no small part to Karol’s leadership over the years, TRM has continued to grow and in 2009, we provided more than 3,000 needy children with toys at Christmas and 1,800 children during Easter and throughout the year. Karol will continue to be a part of Toy Rescue Mission as an Advisory Board Member and after spending some time with her family and friends will resume as a regular volunteer.

Martha Davis, TRM’s vice president, was elected to replace Karol Barkley in a unanimous decision by the board of directors during a meeting held on December 28th, 2009. In addition to being intimately involved with TRM during the past 14 years, Martha has many years of leadership experience, including managing a company with over 125 employees and an operating budget of $1.3 million.

Thanks to several grants and individual donations received at the end of 2009, we are optimistic of the coming year. Toy Rescue Mission has been fortunate to have acquired a new group of professionals that are committed to donating their time within their areas of expertise to ensure that the organization not only survives – but thrives in 2010.
