Letter to Clients and Donors

March 12, 2020

Dear valued clients and donors,

We have found in necessary to suspend accepting gently used toys until April 21, 2020.

We take this measure largely due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and our annual Easter preparation.

With Easter rapidly approaching, we are in the process of handling candy and baskets for more than 1800 children. We sanitize our tables and workspace several times daily to prevent contamination in our work area. We have removed all unclean items that we deem to be a risk while we are preparing for Easter. With that said, and due to limited space, we cannot afford to bring uncleaned donations into this area.

For this time period, we will only accept NEW, WRAPPED toys and other such donations until our Easter distribution has been completed. This was not an easy decision, but I felt it was best to do for the safety of the children we serve. Many of these children are already vulnerable and we do now want to add additional risk.

Additionally, while the office will be open regular hours for now, we ask that those coming for birthdays ensure that you are not having any cold like symptoms. We will have hand sanitizer and wipes available at the front door when you enter.  We will gladly accept your phone calls (253-460-6711) for questions or emails (martha@toyrescuemission.org) in advance. We also respectfully ask that you do not bring children of any age with you.

If the situation changes, we will update you immediately, but again, we must take these steps for the safety of our clients and our volunteers.

Sincerely,

Martha Davis

Letter to Volunteers

March 12, 2020

Dear valued volunteers,

We have found in necessary to suspend accepting gently used toys until April 21, 2020.

We take this measure largely due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak and our annual Easter preparation.

With Easter rapidly approaching, we are in the process of handling candy and baskets for more than 1800 children. We sanitize our tables and workspace several times daily to prevent contamination in our work area. With that said, and due to limited space, we cannot afford to bring uncleaned donations into this area.

We are asking clients that are ill or have sick children to please wait a few days to come in. We will serve late birthdays (up to 2 weeks) until this is over. For our volunteers, we ask that you please adhere to the flyers from the Tacoma Pierce County Health Department that are posted around the building. This details symptoms as well as ways to get ahead like hand washing and sanitizing. I am providing personal hand wipes for each volunteer and we have stocked the building with mask, gloves, hand sanitizers and Lysol to use while working on toys or Easter prep.

If you are ill or have ANY of the symptoms, we ask that you kindly take a few days off to get better for your safety as well as that of the other volunteers. If you wish to discuss a situation with me one on one, you may reach out to me here in the building or by phone or email.

Your loyal service is appreciated, and we want to keep you in the safest environment as possible when you are here helping make kids smile.

Sincerely,

Martha Davis
